Davis: “So, are you not sure
that it was those two who did it? You’re sounding like you’re casting doubt on
that…”
Galloway: “I think they’re
prime suspects. But we’ve gone much further, and you’ve gone even further in
this show than Owen, the judge, did. You are basically arranging a show trial
here of the president of a country with which we have to do business,
apparently careless of what the implications of it will be.”
Davis: “Alex Godfarb -
obviously there’s a deeply sceptical thread that George Galloway is giving
there. That will not be untypical I suspect of some people in Russia, who will
say, ‘This is a British thing…’”
Galloway [interjects]: “..or in
Britain, Evan, or in Britain…”
Davis: “…and maybe some in
Britain. What is the most convincing thing you can say to persuade George
Galloway that he’s wrong?”
Goldfarb: “To begin with,
people in Russia are brainwashed by the state-controlled TV, so it doesn’t matter what they think. [my emphasis]
What is important here is that the evidence against Mr Lugovoy and Mr Kovtun were all heard in the open court; they’re hanging out on the website for everyone to see. And it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt – I challenge anybody to look at the evidence and say that they’re not guilty.”
It is futile to pretend that God’s chosen people, the Jews, are unintelligent. According to Wikipedia:
Goldfarb: “With regard to Mr Putin. The major argument was that nobody in his right mind in the Russian power structure in the FSB or foreign intelligence would dare to authorise an operation like this without covering his back – because Mr Putin personally knew Mr Litvinenko, and he was personally involved, and just – no bureaucrat would dare to do this.”

It is futile to pretend that God’s chosen people, the Jews, are unintelligent. According to Wikipedia:
“Nobel Prizes have been awarded to over 850 individuals, of whom at least 170 individuals (20%) were Jews, although Jews comprise less than 0.2% of the world's population (or 1 in every 500 people). Overall, Jews have won a total of 41% of all the Nobel Prizes in economics, 28% of medicine, 26% of physics, 19% of chemistry, 13% of literature and 9% of all peace awards.”
Impressive as they are however, there is a danger that statistics like these might lead some people to believe in a kind of Jewish intellectual and cultural supremacism. In the following extract, this is perhaps illustrated by British Jewish comedian and novelist David Baddiel:
“"It is probable," writes one historian, "that the Isle of Man in the summer of 1940 was the greatest Jewish cultural and religious centre in Europe." "Without wanting to blow our Jewish trumpet," Baddiel suggests to me, "that probably means the centre of European intellectual and cultural life."”
‘David Baddiel: from fantasy to family’, Matthew J Reisz, Independent, 05 August 2004
“Without wanting to blow our Jewish trumpet…”
Well, OK Mr Baddiel, but most people would say you’ve given that Jewish trumpet of yours a pretty unmistakable toot, all the same. Without wanting to underplay Jewish intellectual and cultural achievements, the implication is that Jews have been the overwhelming driving force of European civilisation. Neither the numbers (60% of all Nobel laureates have been European, of whom only about 10% have been Jewish) nor a rough-and-ready roll call of the greatest contributors to European civilisation (Aquinas, Bach, Shakespeare, Hildegard of Bingen, Da
Vinci, Copernicus, Pascal, Marie Curie, Hilda of Whitby, Dante, Cervantes,
Tolstoy, St John Paul the Great etc) bear this out.
So perhaps not surprisingly, it can be seen that Jewish people are capable of underestimating the intellectual and cultural ‘worth’ of non-Jews. In the Middle-Eastern context, this is especially obvious; not all, but many Israelis are openly dismissive of Arab cultural and scientific achievements. And meanwhile, Israeli intelligence is apt to fall into a similar trap.
Lugovoy and Kovtun both maintain they were falsely incriminated, and on a very straightforward level, this rings true. If a government wanted to kill Litvinenko, it seems likely they might have considered doing it in one of three ways: make it look like an accident/suicide; make it look like an ordinary gangland hit; or make it look like another government was responsible, perhaps to damage that government’s relationship with Britain.
Pages (5 and 6) of Italian Senator (and former head of the Mitrokhin Commission) Paolo Guzzanti’s testimony are referred to above. Of the remainder, page 8 is not least interesting - name-checking as it does ‘the Israeli secret services’ in connection with ‘the trafficking of nuclear material’:
“According to Mario Scaramella he had received information that nuclear waste was being handled by the local mafia (Camorra) which was being sold to Islamic terrorists. Mario Scaramella mentioned Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. He also told me after Alexander Litvinenko death that the Israeli Secret Services were also conducting investigations about this possible threat. […] Mario Scaramella… told me that Semion Mogilevich was a double agent for both the Russian state and a Russian mafia organisation called ‘Solzenskaya’. Amongst other crimes this criminal group was concerned with trafficking nuclear material. […] Mario Scaramella flew to Israel in order to talk to General Yoan Danino chief of police about the problems posed by the nuclear waste market.”
Evidence like this adds to an albeit incomplete picture of a viable alternative thesis about Alexander Litvinenko's death. As also, in my view, does the fact that at the time of the murder, Israel had a president, Moshe Katsav, who was subsequently convicted of rape, and a prime-minister, Ehud Olmert, who was subsequently convicted on several counts of corruption. It's the kind of record that would look bad, even by the standards of some desperately impoverished sub-Saharan African country. However, this is Israel - a country whose claims to be among the world’s elite – morally, academically, economically, militarily and culturally – cannot seriously be disputed.
